Salsa fever
‘St Peter is a salsero - we practically always have good weather’
Ven a bailar al barco de la Salsa! What makes the Grande Fiesta Latina on the lake so special?Summer feeling, sunset, joie de vivre - and young and old are welcome.
Outside on the bow, you can flop down in a deckchair next to palm trees and relax as the sun sets, the wind in your hair. The lounge at the stern offers seating - for taking a break and cooling down. The main attraction, however, are the two dance decks - the dance floors: there is a bar on the upper deck, which is always a hive of activity. Upstairs, DJ Giovanni plays salsa, bachata and merengue, accompanied by two percussionists. On the main deck below are the habitués, who need a good floor with their salsa shoes. ‘The MS Zug is the only ship with a straight floor, it's perfect,’ says a delighted Fabienne from Latin Promotion. And there is something else that is unique on Lake Zug: the pasta buffet for all those who want to fortify themselves in between. ‘You can also buy ice cream on board,’ says the dance teacher: ’That's my personal little highlight for refreshment and that summer feeling.’
Even those who come alone are not alone
As soon as the MS Zug sets sail, Fabienne or Thomas lead a salsa crash course. A good opportunity to get to know the dance instructors personally and have a taster. Anyone can learn dance steps. You'll meet a colourful mix of people on the boat - from children to senior citizens, from beginners to hardcore salsa dancers. Even if you come alone, you are not alone. Even if you don't know anyone, you can quickly find yourself on the dance floor and simply join in - the dance partners change frequently and you quickly get to know lots of new people. And at the latest when the two percussionists beat rhythmic beats with their conga and campana and dance along, even the non-dancers are happy to move.
That special summer seaside feeling
What makes a salsa party on a boat different from a club? Definitely the atmosphere at sea under the open sky, including the sunset and live percussion. Summer feeling, light-heartedness, it's cool and relaxed, ‘just family’, even if it's your first time. You shouldn't worry about the weather, says Fabienne: ‘Peter is a salsero - we practically always have nice weather.’
The next salsa ship - the last of the season - sets sail on 7 September 2024
